Counselor Training Programs
The Community Education Programs will be offering a Counselor in Training (CIT) Program and a Junior Staff program for adolescents entering eighth to eleventh grade.

CIT Program
Grade Range: 7th - 10th
CIT Enrollment Max: 10 per week
Rate: $150/section ($300 to complete program)

The Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is comprised of four components. First, the CITs will spend valuable time with the program coordinator learning about the specific responsibilities of a camp counselor. Participants will learn about appropriate counselor to camper boundaries. They will discuss legal mandates regarding child abuse and will learn to recognize signs of child abuse. CITs will also learn about the developmental characteristics of children so that they will more readily understand appropriate and inappropriate behavior. Participants will be taught behavior management and how to keep campers safe (our number one priority). Second, the CITs will participate in Team Building activities designed to develop leadership, team work, and communication skills. These activities will take place both indoors and outdoors, as well as a Tuesday Field Trip to 5 Wits, located at Patriots Place in Foxborough, Ma. Third, the CITs will be certified in CPR and First Aid. Fourth, the CITs will spend time shadowing a senior camp counselor or Activity Specialist, who is responsible for a group of campers. Campers are divided into groups according to age. The camp is composed of campers ranging in age from 5 to 12. Each CIT will have the opportunity to spend time with campers across this age range. Each day will end with a meeting to discuss the experiences of the day. This is a wonderful opportunity for the CITs to ask questions.

The Program is broken up into two, one-week sections, A and B. Both sections must be completed before becoming a certified CIT, but sections can be taken in any order. After certification, CITs who qualify, may apply for the Jr. Staff Program.

CIT Program Dates:

Section A: Weeks ofJune 23, July 7, July 21, August 4.

Section B: Weeks of June 30, July 14, July 28, August 11.

Jr Staff Program
Grade Range: 7th - 10th
Rate: $150 per week

The Jr. Staff Program is designed to be the next step in the Counselor Training Program. Jr. Staff will spend the majority of the day assigned to one group, with the purpose of shadowing and supporting our summer camp staff. Each Jr. Staff participant will be required to run an activity with a camp group, and be subject to two evaluations per week. Applicants must be accepted into the program by the CIT Coordinator.
