Cancellations & Delays
JUNE 17, 2025 is the projected LAST DAY OF SCHOOL assuming no snow cancellations.
Dear Westborough Families and Colleagues:
It is that time of year! As the days get shorter and colder and winter weather sets in, there is a chance that at some point I will need to cancel or delay school. I am reaching out to share specific details about how I will approach the decision making process and what you can expect from me in terms of communication. This information will also appear on our district website: scroll down to the icons underneath the photo banner and click on “Cancellations and Delays” or the snowflake icon.
The main question I need to answer when making a decision about whether to call a snow day is: “Can children and staff get to and from school safely?” Answering this question involves a series of important steps:
Monitoring weather forecasts with special attention to storm alerts
Consulting with the DPW and police to assess the safety of local and regional roads, school parking lots, and sidewalks along major walking routes
Checking in with area superintendents to see whether other districts--particularly those where many of our staff live--will be open, closed or delayed
Contacting our bus company to assess the readiness of the fleet
My goal will be to communicate the decision early–by 5:45 a.m. whenever possible–so that families and staff can plan for childcare and work.
A message will be sent to the phone number stored in PowerSchool for cancellations or delays, and an e-mail will be sent to email addresses through Parent Square.
Cancellation and delay information will also be broadcast and posted on:
- WBZ TV Channel 4
- WCVB TV Channel 5
- WHDH TV Channel 7
- WFXT TV Channel 25
- Westborough Cable TV
- Globe.com
The Westborough Public Schools District website (www.westboroughk12.org) will display the information as well.
What details do you need to know when school is cancelled or delayed? Information appears below for you to review, and will be repeated with any specific announcement. If you have any questions about the process, please reach out.
Warmly,
Allison Borchers
Superintendent
